It happens to everyone. You know you should write something, and when you stare at a blank page for a while but your hands doing nothing. Usually, you click your browser and surf aimlessly. You even get in to sneak in a few games and stream some clips. Before you realize it, it is dark and you’re eyes are too slumber to work. There’s always tomorrow, your argument, but you know that tomorrow the same thing will recurred again and again.
Deferment has always been one of my most violent enemies
I have not gotten pass it completely, but here’s a few things that helped me reduce it. Stop obsessing about perfection. Often, my thoughts are too scrambled to write anything emphatic. I know the topic I want to write about, but that is it. The instance are hazy. This makes me stuck and so I put off writing. Now, I do not aim for sensible independent clause right out of the bag. I write things as they come, sans fussy editing. Your first objective is to put all your thoughts about the subject on white and black. Before you realize it, you will have whole paragraphs of material to work with. Editing is much easier when you can see the words in front of you, instead of wrestling with them in your head.
Put motivational quote everywhere
Find a great quote that motivates you to work, or invent one yourself. It doesn’t have to be worthy of Shakespeare - it only has to work for you. Something like this, “Dude, if you do not work, you do not eat” will suffice, as long as it hits you where it matters. Create a simple desktop wallpaper in Paint or Photoshop containing your quote in big bold letters on plain white background. Use different colors to make certain keywords pop. If you are feeling lazy, make a note and stick it on your monitor.
Visual reminders are essential
Draw your dream house right after take a picture of your inspiration, or get your fantasy model toy car and place it near your workstation. It feels great to see the positive things you get from working your butt off. The sweat, blood, and tears are leading somewhere. We often lose sight of why we are working in the first place, so reminders are very important.
